From Weeds to Wonders: Discovering Native Plants in My Yard

Ever since I built my house, unknown plants have randomly sprouted in my lawn each year. At first, I thought, "I guess these are so-called 'weeds." But then a thought occurred to me: "What if this is the beginning of ecological succession and some of these plants are actually native species that were here before my house?" I decided to save some of them, and after a few weeks, they bloomed beautifully.
I learned so much from this experience: some weeds can be local plants that have been present for generations, and I'm the new inhabitant. Native species provide essential habitats and food sources for indigenous insects, birds, and other wildlife, fostering a balanced and thriving ecosystem. Something that I should celebrate and support.
